Milta Bodrum Marina

Nautical Chart Explanations

Our marina, as a dealer, to serve yachtsmen, carries out the sales of the charts below, based on the price tariff determined by the “Office of Navigation Hydrography and Oceanography”, and also assists the boat owners with digital chart orders.

Importance of Scale on Charts

Chart and compass are navigational tools. Some charts that you think are rarely used, even if they are needed only once in a lifetime, are still insurance that should never be neglected for your navigational safety.

As the scale gets smaller,

  • The area covered by the chart area becomes larger.
  • The information detail in a certain area of the chart is reduced.
  • The frequency of iso-depth contours decreases.
  • Sounding information can be read as rough and round numbers.
  • The rate of positioning error on the chart increases.
  • The accuracy of the position on the chart decreases.

Chart selection suggestions

  • Navigational planning is made with small-scale charts.
  • Large scale charts such as at least 1/100,000 and then 1/50,000 and 1/25,000 should be used while navigating.
  • It is recommended to follow the method below in the selection of the chart, depending on the dimensions of the sailing area.
  • If you are navigating all over a sea, for example the entire Aegean Sea, you should prefer Aegean Sea Portfolio.
  • Selecting charts one at a time may only be reasonable if you are navigating in a much narrower area, for example only around Çeşme.
  • Even when selecting charts one by one, it is useful to obtain all available charts of all scales of the relevant region.
